Traditional inks are not considered good for the environment, as they are based on petroleum and do not decompose in landfills. This has created a need for eco-friendly materials to generate inks. There are many types of inks like vegetable based, soy based and many more. Corn ink is based on the similar principle.
Corn is a renewable resource of much importance. Corn starch or corn starch derivative is the key ingredient when manufacturing corn ink. This bio-degradable corn ink is made with ethyl lactate. Dent corn is a variety of corn which is high in starch content and hence it is widely used for production of printing inks.
Corn ink reduces or even cuts down volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emissions. This helps to prevent the degradation of environment and hence corn ink can be termed as yet another savior of the environment.
